"Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice."

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)

The reading from the book of Genesis today reminds me of the time I heard someone say that God created man in His own image, but to create woman he used a rib! But before all you ladies lynch me, I also heard it said that God first made man, and then he made the more updated mark II version called woman!

Scholars believe that the Book of Genesis is about 4,000 years old. Genesis is not a science book; it is a theology book that uses poetic language to tell us that God is the Creator of man and woman, and that God is the Creator of marriage, which is the lifelong union of a man and a woman in mutual and lasting fidelity. In our day and age we need reminding that marriage is sacred union and has been created for a man and a woman. Marriage between and a man and man or a woman and a woman is not possible.

Jesus re-affirms the truth about marriage in today’s gospel. ‘What God has united man must not divide’
