"Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice."

The Sacred Heart of Jesus (Year C)

We have seen over the last few weeks how the parents of Madeleine McCann have been doing everything possible to get their daughter back. Yet this is a pale reflection of the lengths God goes to, to bring His lost children back into the safety of His burning love.

Humanity had turned its back on God, who had given humanity everything. Yet God did not abandon men and women in their rebellion. God sought to bring fallen humanity back to His Kingdom.

God sent His only Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save it. St Paul reveals this great love of God when he says, ‘what proves God loves us is that Christ died for us while we were still sinners’. God came to us in Christ, even though we were undeserving of His love.

Our Lord reveals His deep love for us in the parable of the lost sheep. Although we can wander far from God, God pursues us, wanting to bring us back into the shelter of His fold. God uses many methods and ways to get us back into His arms. The lengths He goes to is manifested by looking at a crucifix, which reminds us of the sacrifice Christ made for us, when His Sacred Heart was pierced for us.

Jesus is still the One who goes in search of the ‘missing one till he found it’; Jesus does not give up on His search because we are children of God and loved by Him.

Let’s pray for those who wandered far from the Lord that they will return to His fold.
